Speaking on practical AI, cybersecurity and leadership.
I help business owners and leaders understand where AI can improve their work, what needs to be ready first, and which decisions must stay with people.

Experience behind the conversation.
I’m Todd Johnson, a fractional CIO, CTO and Chief AI Officer, and founder of InnovateX Solutions and InnovateX Academy. My 15 years in technology include strategy, solution architecture and enterprise security, with government programs at PROTECTED classification. I’ve led more than 30 people in government and worked on security programs through implementation and audit. That experience shapes how I explain AI adoption and the responsibilities that come with it.
What needs to be ready before AI touches your business. We work through data quality, access permissions, cybersecurity and the technology setup behind a useful AI application. Technical detail is explained through the business decisions it affects.
What you take away
A clear view of the gaps to address, who needs to own them and where a first AI use case can safely begin.
Who it’s for
Business owners, leadership teams, boards and industry groups
Putting AI to work in your business
Start with work that needs improving. Use AI to reduce repetitive effort, respond faster or provide more personal service, then measure the result after human review. We cover choosing a use case, testing it and deciding whether to expand, change or stop.
What you take away
A practical way to judge business value, including time saved, service quality, cost and risk.
Who it’s for
Business owners, executives, chambers and government teams
AI and the human part of the work
Where AI can help and where we need to keep thinking for ourselves. Critical thinking, problem solving, strategic judgement and empathy remain human responsibilities. We look at how to use AI without handing over accountability or losing the personal service customers need.
What you take away
Questions that help a team decide what to delegate to AI, what to check and what should stay with a person.
Who it’s for
Leaders, customer service teams and organisations adopting AI
Cybersecurity in business language
Understand the risk without getting buried in jargon. We connect practical security measures to the things a business needs to protect: customer information, money, access and the ability to keep operating. Enough technical detail to question advice and make an informed decision.
What you take away
A clearer way to discuss security priorities, responsibility and the next practical improvement.
Who it’s for
Business owners, boards and people making technology decisions
Helping teams use technology well
Teaching people how to use AI is only part of adoption. Teams also need to understand the task, recognise a poor result, protect information and know when to ask for help. Sessions can work through a real business task with time to practise and question the result.
What you take away
A way to turn training into useful working habits, with human review and clear ownership.
Who it’s for
Team leaders, business owners and workplace learning programmes
Leadership when you’re the youngest in the room
What I learnt leading more than 30 people in government, including people with decades more experience than me. Earning trust, listening to expertise and taking responsibility without pretending to know everything, then carrying those lessons into running a business.
What you take away
How to build credibility, make difficult decisions and move from technical work into leadership.
Who it’s for
Emerging leaders, technology teams and leadership programmes
Success without the usual path
Dropping out of high school, a car crash at 17, and learning a different career from the beginning. I worked in retail and hospitality while studying at TAFE, went into technology leadership and eventually started InnovateX. A personal account of a path I never planned.
What you take away
A conversation about learning again, taking opportunities and leading without a conventional start.
Who it’s for
Education providers, emerging professionals and community events
Choose a format for your audience.
Keynotes & conferences
A focused argument for your audience, grounded in real technology and leadership work. We agree the theme, time available and the decision you want people thinking about.
Seminars & workshops
More room to get practical. Bring an AI use case, a technology decision or a team challenge and work through it with questions and discussion.
Panels & fireside conversations
A practitioner’s perspective alongside other voices. Suitable for business, government and industry discussions about AI, security and leadership.
Webinars & virtual events
Remote sessions for distributed teams, member organisations and online learning. The content and interaction are shaped for the time and audience.
Podcasts & interviews
Conversations about building a business, responsible AI, technology leadership and the personal story behind the work. Remote or in person by arrangement.
A leadership team considering AI adoption has different questions from a team learning to use it. Tell me who will be in the room, what they already understand and the decisions they are facing. We can discuss the topic, format and time available around that context.
Todd is based in Brisbane and speaks in person or online, with travel by arrangement. Send the event location, proposed date, audience and format so availability and arrangements can be discussed.
What should I include in an enquiry?
