Todd Johnson is a fractional technology executive, speaker and founder of InnovateX Solutions and InnovateX Academy. Todd Johnson is a fractional CIO, CTO and Chief AI Officer, speaker and founder of InnovateX Solutions and InnovateX Academy, based in Brisbane. He helps business owners and leaders understand how AI can improve their work, what needs to be in place before they use it, and where human judgement must remain.

His path into technology was unconventional. Todd dropped out of high school to become an electrician, but a car crash at 17 ended that plan. He studied software at TAFE while working long weeks in retail and hospitality. His first web design business failed because he lacked the experience to run it. He went looking for that experience across different technology roles, industries and communities.

Over 15 years, his work has spanned technology strategy, solution architecture and enterprise security, including government programs at PROTECTED classification. He has developed technology roadmaps and data platforms, and worked on security programs through implementation and audit. His experience includes work with ISO 27001, SMB1001 and the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM). He became the youngest manager in a government IT group of 118 staff and led more than 30 people, including colleagues with decades more experience than him.

Todd was working towards becoming a CIO when he realised he wanted to help more than one organisation. He was also frustrated by expensive consulting work that left businesses with reports instead of solutions to their problems. He founded InnovateX Solutions in October 2024 to connect advice with delivery. InnovateX Academy extends that work through technology education, including practical AI, data and cybersecurity.

As a father of young children, Todd thinks about the future they will inherit as technology changes how people live and work. That drives his own learning and his commitment to sharing what he learns. His talks connect technical detail to business decisions: protecting information, preparing teams and using AI to improve service without giving up human responsibility.
